(100 words)Mark Joseph Rice (ne Rogers, pseudo name) was born in 1955 in Dublin, Ireland and worked for many years in London and Dublin as a qualified management accountant. Since 2012 he used his keen observational skills to complete a series of humorous and touching short stories, contained in Fur Coats and Other Stories. A second volume was published in 2015 called Amusing Short Stories. An introduction to the world of cruising led him to write The Beginners Guide to Cruising in 2014 and since then he has been maintaining a blog, weirdorwhat.wordpress.com where you can find further material.

Mark Joseph Rice (ne Rogers, pseudo name) was born in 1955 in Dublin, Ireland and worked for many years in London and Dublin as a qualified management accountant. He is the eldest of four sons and was educated in St Mary's College, Rathmines, Dublin before attending the Dublin Institute of Technology and completing a business course. He then worked in accounting practice before entering industry. In  1980 he emigrated to London, England and worked and lived there until 2000. Since that date he returned to Dublin and worked again as an accountant and Finance Manager. In 2012 he used his keen observational skills to complete a series of humorous and touching short stories, contained in Fur Coats and Other Stories. A second volume was published in 2015 called Amusing Short Stories. An introduction to the world of cruising led him to write The Beginners Guide to Cruising in 2014 and since then he has been maintaining a blog, weirdorwhat.wordpress.com where you can find further material.

In 2017 he took time off to start writing his first novel and so Murder in Maspalomas, a crime murder mystery thriller was written and published this year.  The 54,500 word novel was based on a visit to Maspalomas in 2016 and once there he wrote notes of actual places and happenings onto which a layer of fictional crime was poured. 

He is working now on another fictional murder story and hopes to complete the book by the year end

5 Fun Facts You Didn't Know About Me
Mark started out his working life as a trolley boy in a local supermarket and was renowned as a DJ in his DIT college years. He also worked briefly as a trainee manager in the Ladies Underwear Department of Primark. He played many sports most notably rugby, football, badminton, squash and tennis and is now still playing indoor football and running 6 kilometres every other day. He is a strong supporter of Parkrun.com, a free 5 K Saturday morning run or walk that is taking place every Saturday in a park near you across the world. Check it out!  






Book Synopsis - Murder in Maspalomas


A crime novel that starts in Dublin, Ireland but with tension building shifts to the Canary Islands, off the African coast . Matt had an old friend he’d known since he was a kid. When Declan came offering Matt a business opportunity how could he refuse? Indeed it all could have gone so well if the fire hadn’t happened and the stock been destroyed. Only then did Matt find out about the other investors and the lengths they would go to to get their money back. Matt had to get out of the country and fast so he took a holiday in the far away Canary Islands gambling that the criminal gang wouldn’t follow for such a small debt. How wrong could he be?
